Sustainable Development

EcoFootage online videos on sustainable development.Sustainable development is commonly defined as development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. For the developing world, this means leaping over obsolete natural resource intensive and polluting patterns of development and moving directly to the most efficient and nonpolluting technologies and development approaches available.

For the developed world, sustainable development means remaking and reshaping existing development patterns and technologies to reduce in absolute terms the extraction of natural resources from and the emission of wastes into the environment. For the entire world, sustainable development requires new models and new concepts of development that are not tied to the ever-growing use of natural resources. These go under various names, including zero waste or zero discharge manufacturing, design for recycling, closed-loop processes, industrial ecology, design with nature, and biomimicry.
